Permanent Jewellery Blog

Is permanent jewellery hard?

Permanent jewellery is enjoying a huge surge in popularity at the moment. This is mainly due to the huge opportunities available as demand currently outstrips supply.

However, people focusing just on the financial opportunity that this trend offers are possibly missing the fact that this is actually quite a difficult skill to learn.

Yes, with practice you can turn out at least four bracelets an hour, which, if priced correctly can net you a six figure business in a year. But it does take awhile to be able to work at that pace, so this can be seen as I get rich quick opportunity, you are going to have to learn the skill properly.

The worlds themselves can be incredibly difficult to get right. So many things affect the welding of the metal right down to the humidity in the atmosphere on any given day. The jump rings that we are welding have to touch perfectly to melt the metals to give strong and durable welds. Because without strong welds you don’t have happy customers.

Learning how to see a proper weld and even hear what that should sound like is a skill. Now imagine trying to look for that, whilst holding a tiny piece of metal just a couple of millimetres across, which also has a chain and a charm attached and a human wearing them. It’s incredibly fiddly work and takes a lot of concentration to hold all that together and weld it perfectly.

This is why our focus has always been in person training. Training comes with feedback. We can watch you and your method of closing your jump rings, and also correct you if you’re doing it incorrectly to make sure that you pick up the skill as quickly as possible. We’re not saying there isn’t a space for online training, but that you will excel quicker and be able to make a successful business more quickly from having feedback guidance and ongoing support.

So many of our students train and say they thought it was going to be so much easier. We have also retrained many people who trained online and just couldn’t pick up the skill without having the feedback that in person training offers.

We like to think that this investment is your best approach to starting a successful business that will give you happy customers who will repeatedly come back for more and more pieces of jewellery, rather than just falling at the first hurdle with incorrect training.
